The Bazaar by José Andrés – Review

The Bazaar by José Andrés is a newly opened South Beach dining collaboration between Chef José Andrés and design extraordinaire Philippe Starck. Just steps away from the energy of Collins Avenue in Miami Beach’s South Beach area, The Bazaar is as vibrant, alive, and beautiful as the international human experience at its doorstep.

Walking through the grand entrance shared by the SLS and Katsuya is a memorable experience itself. Very few Miami area restaurants transport guests to the liveliest, yet refined metropolitan restaurants found in New York, DC, and LA. The Bazaar is one of the rare examples that does just that in a distinctly South Beach way.

Professional, courteous, and genuinely appreciative are words that come to mind when describing the staff of The Bazaar. The hostess greeted us with a smile and conversation, welcoming us to our 9:30 dinner reservation. We chose to enjoy a pre-dinner signature cocktail creation of Think Food Group’s lead bartender Owen Thompson. Upon being seated at the expansive breezeway-style bar, just beyond the main diningroom, we were greeted by a very helpful bartender who expertly explained each cocktail. The drinks? Fantastic. Mr. Thompson’s legacy lives on.

Our dining experience consisted of a multi-course selection of tapas which became increasingly magnificent with each shared plate. The balanced flavors and textures are magically interconnected from plate to plate. Not a trivial accomplishment given the menu’s eclectic mix of international inspirations. The food at The Bazaar is inventive, fun and absolutely delicious. If you know of a more complete dining experience on South Beach, please let me know.

José Andrés, Philippe Starck, and team have done a phenomenal job with this project. The Bazaar is just the type of restaurant South Beach needed. Given Think Food Group’s expanding restaurant portfolio, it’s clear that quite a bit of research and observation went into deciding on The Bazaar for this location. My expectations were exceeded.
